ILE for Foxvans

Bay Area-based Foxvans produces lightweight, modular van conversion systems for outdoor enthusiasts. With a focus on performance materials, durable construction, and practical design––Foxvans’ manufacturing principles closely mirror our own. We first met their team last year, and worked together to outfit their showroom van with a range of ILE accessories that integrate nicely with their systems. ILE for Foxvans

Tell us a bit about yourselves, what you do for a living, and your interests outside of work.

Foxvans is made up of Andrew Kamegawa, Michael McNaught (Berkeley Builders), Daniel Cortest, and Lucian Novosel. We're a group with a lot of nerdy, upstart energy. We’re quick to innovate and build technology around niche needs in the camper van space. We often outsource repetitive tasks to tools and advanced equipment, and find a lot of inspiration in ILE this way.

Andrew transitioned from a successful sales career to running Foxvans during COVID and has been leading the company for five years. He brought his entrepreneurial mindset to grow the company. Michael, a Cal grad and philosophy major, started Berkeley Builders, focusing on optimizing camper builds for Subarus. His expertise in Fusion 360 allows us to create highly precise framing systems for all our vans. Daniel is a recent addition who brings great energy to the shop. Lucian creates social media content to help people learn about our systems.

Our personal interests tie into our work. For example, Lucian uses 3D printing for prototyping electrical system wiring harnesses. Michael loves traveling and dreams of being a resident artist at Pier 9. Andrew enjoys building businesses, traveling, and working in his new garage. We all value the privilege of working with physical materials and running a factory—it’s incredibly rewarding.

What's the story of Foxvans?

Foxvans offers a fully modular van conversion system designed for flexibility and customization. Our lightweight yet durable T-slot aluminum extrusion framework allows you to configure kitchens, worktables and more using basic hand tools––perfect for adapting your van to changing needs. Whether you’re building for off-grid overlanding, weekend adventures, or full-time living, our system supports seamless modifications.

With reversible color panels, a queen size tri-fold bed that converts to a couch, and integrated storage solutions, Foxvans ensures your van is as functional as it is comfortable. Designed for efficiency, maneuverability, and long-term durability, we make van life effortless—no matter where the road takes you.

Foxvans was originally started by a different founder. Andrew joined around COVID, learned about building vans, and saw an opportunity to grow the company. He believed his tech experience could modernize operations, leading to innovations like T-slot extrusions, online booking, and a stronger social media presence. These improvements brought better business practices and more customer engagement.

Product-wise, we began with Gen 1, which used organic materials and fixed-frame designs. Gen 2 introduced T-slot extrusions, lightweight Formica boards, and our signature bed-couch transformer system. It also included a roof rack and bracketing system compatible with Ford Transit and Sprinter vans. Gen 3 builds on Gen 2 with more configurability and refinements. We’re excited to launch Gen 3 after years of development.

What makes your company unique?

Bay Area fabrication companies are inherently unique for surviving in such a competitive, expensive market. Despite the challenges, we’re grateful for access to high standards, tools, and technology, which we integrate into our products. Our Gen 3 system reflects this environment, offering a flat-pack design that allows customers to build high-quality systems at home. This eliminates costly labor while offering a professional, accessible product that reflects a decade of development.

Tell us a bit about your facilities and production process.

We’re based on Treasure Island, a former naval base turned warehouse district. It’s centrally located in the Bay Area with beautiful waterfront views and low traffic. Nearby, there’s a massive Pickleball facility called Bay Padel, housed in a 50k square foot warehouse reminiscent of WWII-era industrial production. We share our space with industrial artists and Burners who bring a wealth of experience in dust-proofing. The environment is inspiring and perfectly aligns with our work.

How do ILE pieces integrate with your systems?

ILE products integrate seamlessly into our T-slot extrusions and fit perfectly on the shelving units we produce. The weatherproof XPAC fabric pairs nicely with our lightweight engineering-focused system. ILE products give our customers freedom, letting them adapt soft storage to their camper household, all  while maintaining a high-tech, lightweight performance aesthetic.
